Beyond the Headlines
During my coverage of the devastating wildfires that swept across Lebanon in October 2019, I appealed to officials to urgently intervene and rescue residents as the flames reached homes in the Damour area. The moment became widely remembered for the phrase, "The scene here is heartbreaking" - "المشهد مبكي هنا". What many people do not know is that I could hear the screams and desperate calls for help from residents trapped by the advancing flames. Being so close to the fire, I felt the gravity of the danger firsthand, while the limited number of firefighters on the ground intensified the sense of urgency and helplessness. Those were extremely difficult moments, and despite the professionalism journalism demands, my emotions overtook me. Journalists strive to report the facts with accuracy and composure, but they remain human beings above all else. In the face of fear, loss, and human suffering, emotions can sometimes speak louder than words.
